A woman just unintentionally unearthed an ancient megalodon tooth.<\/p>\n
While strolling along the beach, she stumbled on a large black object.<\/p>\n

READ MORE: 1000-year-old \u2018alien bodies\u2019 unveiled in Mexican Parliament<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Venice, Florida is known as the Shark Tooth Capital of the World.<\/p>\n It all started when Florida was submerged during the Cretaceous\u00a0Period.<\/p>\n If you don\u2019t remember this it\u2019s because it happened 50 million years ago.<\/p>\n Today, fossils from animals that roamed the area millions of years ago lie buried underneath the waters surrounding the state.<\/p>\n <\/a>ABC7<\/p>\n And these fossils tend to wash up on the beaches, particularly the beaches of Venice.<\/p>\n The most popular type of fossils to wash up are sharks\u2019 teeth. <\/p>\n So much so that going shark tooth spotting is a tourist attraction in these parts.<\/p>\n Shark teeth fossilize easily, plus they lose 10,000 of them a year, which is why there are so many to be found.<\/p>\n A local woman, Beth Orticelli<\/a>, has made a hobby of finding these ancient teeth<\/a>.<\/p>\n She has an impressive collection, which is displayed in piles on trays around her home.<\/p>\n <\/a>ABC7<\/a>ABC7<\/p>\n While it\u2019s common to find shark teeth, a megalodon tooth is really rare.<\/p>\n Which is why her recent discovery caused so much excitement.<\/p>\n Megalodons<\/a> ruled the ocean 2.5 million years ago.<\/p>\n They weighed as much as 30 great white sharks and were 60 feet long.<\/p>\n Their mouths were absolutely massive, able to swallow two humans standing side by side in one go.<\/p>\n Luckily for us, they\u2019re extinct, leaving just their gigantic fossils behind.<\/p>\n Orticelli and her husband were walking along Manasota Beach when they noticed an unusual shape in the sand.<\/p>\n She picked up what turned out to be a megalodon<\/a> tooth which was as big as her palm.<\/p>\n She hasn\u2019t had it valued but the tooth could be worth tens of thousands of dollars.<\/p>\n <\/a>ABC7<\/p>\n Most people would store something this valuable somewhere safe and out of the way.<\/p>\n But Orticelli likes to do things a little differently.<\/p>\n She\u2019s made a large mosaic of shark teeth, with the megalodon tooth stuck proudly in the center.<\/p>\n The post Woman discovers 12 million-year-old object while walking on the beach<\/a> appeared first on Supercar Blondie<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" A woman just unintentionally unearthed an ancient megalodon tooth.
