It\u2019s probably not the news you were expecting to hear, but BMW<\/a> has launched the world\u2019s first all-glass flying yacht.<\/p>\n

Built in collaboration with yacht manufacturer, Tyde<\/a>, it\u2019s a hydrofoil boat that looks like a supercar flying above the water.<\/p>\n

Interesting fact: it\u2019s called \u2018The Icon\u2019 as it\u2019s actually powered by the same batteries you\u2019d find under the hood of a BMW i3 \u2013 six of them to be precise.<\/p>\n

The Icon is a hydrofoil, which means it can lift itself from the water as its speed increases.<\/p>\n

Apparently \u2018foiling\u2019 \u2013 where the hull is above the surface, not below like conventional boats<\/a> \u2013 reduces the energy required by up to 80 per cent.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Supercar Blondie<\/p>\n

It\u2019s powered by two 134-hp (100-kW) electric motors that, when combined with the six batteries, provide a total capacity of 240kWh, giving it a top speed of 30 knots \u2013 equivalent to around 55 km\/h on land.<\/p>\n

In terms of range, The Icon can cover 50 nautical miles (100 kilometers \/ 62 miles) on a charge.<\/p>\n

Okay, they may not be record-breaking stats, but then again this boat isn\u2019t designed for speed and power \u2013 it\u2019s designed as a work of art and a toy for the mega rich.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Supercar Blondie<\/p>\n

Design-wise, the inspiration came from Japanese origami.<\/p>\n

It has a pointy \u2018nose\u2019 and a larger section at the back.<\/p>\n

Speaking of which, the stern is characterized by two key features: a vertical structure that looks like a car spoiler, and a sizable aft deck.<\/p>\n

Each section of the exterior is adorned with LED lights to make it shine at night, and the result is outstanding.<\/p>\n

The interior is gorgeous, just like the cabin of a supercar or a luxury sedan.<\/p>\n

It follows the same color theme as the exterior, with ocean blue upholstery and gold-tone accents.<\/p>\n

In the cabin, you\u2019ll find six 360-degree rotating armchairs with individual tablets within arm\u2019s reach, as well as plush sofas and soft suede carpeting.<\/p>\n

In the middle of the deck, the command station has iDrive-style controls and voice control.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s more, you also get a 32-inch \u2018infotainment\u2019 touchscreen display with 6k resolution.<\/p>\n

But the best part about it is the noise aka the \u2018on-board soundscape\u2019.<\/p>\n

A while ago, BMW partnered up with Oscar-winning score composer Hans Zimmer to create custom soundtracks for its cars.<\/p>\n

The partnership extends to other BMW\u2019s vehicles as well, including this boat.<\/p>\n

As you sail along, the boat produces notes composed by Hans Zimmer himself. <\/p>\n

Now that does sound good.<\/p>\n
